Two Woods Road National Art Contest Winners!

We are so excited to find out two of our Woods Road Students were announced as National Art Contest Winners! Julia in first grade and third grade student Sameera, both were recently honored in the Mixed Media Contest, a nationwide art contest sponsored by Blick Art Materials in partnership with Artsonia. Students from across the country in kindergarten through 12th grade were invited to finish the artist statement “With Art I Can…” verbally and in the form of a mixed media collage or assemblage.

Julia wrote the following artist statement below:

With Art I Can... explore the picture in my head and then I can draw it out. Art makes me feel creative. I like when my art can tell a story.” She received  a gold award in the contest’s kindergarten through 4th grade category.

Sameera's artist statement below:

“With Art I Can... CREATE. (C) create a colorful world. (R) reflect my thoughts. (E) express my feelings. (A) always learn new things. (T) Tell people who I am. (E) explore ideas,”  She was awarded a silver award in the Mixed Media Contest.

Julia’s and Sameera’s winning art works are now viewable on the Artsonia website. Both students received a personal Blick Art Materials gift card as well as a Blick Art Materials gift card for their school.

The Mixed Media Contest was broken down into three divisions: Grades K-4, Grades 5-8, and Grades 9-12. Five gold awards and ten silver awards were presented in each division. Judging was performed by art educators who took into equal consideration the artist’s overall message, statement, and artwork when evaluating the entries.
