WELCOME!
Welcome parents, friends and whoever else loves to see children's artwork as much as I do! I am so excited to be joining the Woods Road School in Hillsborough, New Jersey. Before I arrived at this wonderful place, I spent a year at a very special charter school in New York City. I learned so much that I am excited to share with my new students. I created this blog as a window into the art studio which show process as well as product and hopefully initiates conversation between parents and the young artists.
WHAT TO EXPECT FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS...
What I learned from my last teaching experience is how important it is for students to learn the routines that go along with the art studio before jumping into content. The first two weeks students will learn how to move around the art room, observe/question art, share materials and provide feedback/critique other student's artwork. Additionally, we will read one of the two incredible books shown above. For grades Pre-K, TP, third and fourth grade we will read Beautiful Oops which celebrates mistakes by showing all the possibilities they offer and grade 2, The Dot which encourages young artists to be themselves and not be scared to make their mark. The most important thing for me is for all of my students to feel safe to express themselves in the art room and not be scared to make mistakes! By that point, we should be ready to get rolling on some awesome art unit so stay tuned!
