PCNJ Returns For Fourth Grade!

Fourth grade students at Woods Road School had some special artists from The Printmaking Center of New Jersey this month.  To prepare, we spent a class with Mrs. Banker discussing the connection between animal and man dating back to cave paintings.  Students researched how in different cultures animals are known for portraying certain character traits or meanings and chose an animal that was most similar to themselves.  Next, we created a stencil by drawing our spirit animals silhouette and figuring out negative and positive space for cutting.  When the printmaking instructors arrived on printing day they helped students use silk screens to reproduce their image onto their very own T-shirt.  Everyone had a blast! A special thank you to PCNJ, all the fourth grade teachers and Dana Gordon for your help during each class.

Printmaking Center of New Jersey Stops By!

We were privileged to have The Printmaking of New Jersey visit to teach a workshop on silk screening with our fourth grade students.  Each young artist created a stencil of an animal with construction paper, paying close attention to the positive and negative space when they were cutting them out.  Next, each student worked with the visiting print maker to transfer their designs onto T-shirts.  We plan on wearing them for the Art show, coming up on June 5th and 6th, but some couldn't wait until then and wore them the very next day.
