Mistakes Into Masterpieces
To start off the new school year, we looked at Barney Saltzberg's The Beautiful Oops and discussed how artists can use their mistakes to create something unexpected versus getting frustrated and even giving up. Each student was given one of eight different ink splotches, and turned them up, down, and around until they became inspired to create a picture or design incorporating the shape given to them on their paper. Our third and fourth graders had many creative solutions for their ink splotch and very few were alike. Here are a few examples as well as some of the ink splotches provided and then below the wonderful results!
