Constructing Architectural Models

The first step of our architecture unit was learning how an architect is a type of artist who designs the way buildings look. We examined American architect  Frank Lloyd Wright and his famous Falling Water house.  Then, we discussed why and what would be considered part of the blueprints of a building. Next, students generated a floor plan and frontal view of their dream house. Finally, after weeks of anxiously waiting and seeing examples of architectural models they created their own, by working with a partner and using a variety of materials such as toilet paper rolls, coffee stirrers, cardboard, corrugated paper and glue.

  1. It is beautiful to see these kids making their own architectural models. I just hope that some day, at least one of these children will be making them professionally to keep the physical model productions alive!
